The Child Safe Traveller

This report presents findings of research carried out in Bangkok, Thailand, between April and May 2013. Building on Child Safe Tourism: The Tourist Perspective, this study looked deeper into tourist perceptions of child exploitation in connection with tourism in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Thailand and Vietnam. It also assessed tourist reactions to child safe tourism communications. A total of 268 tourists from 39 countries completed surveys and interviews. The study found tourists to South East Asia want: 
i) clear information about how to be a child safe traveller,
ii) more consumer choices that align with child safe tourism, and
iii) to be part of the change, led by governments and the tourism industry.

Child Safe Tourism: The Tourist Perspective

More than 300 self-selected survey participants representing 37 countries shared their experiences of interactions with children in Cambodia, Thailand, Lao PDR and Vietnam and their perceptions of Child Safe Tourism. 84.8% of survey participants stated that they would like to know more about how to protect children and prevent exploitation while traveling and 94.8% of participants said that a business’ policy to protect children would positively influence their purchase habits.
